AMP - done deal!

Image
Well...Mother Nature cooperated and it was a sunny but blustery day for the first race of the season. Here is my post ride report on the club website. Pretty much sums it all up.The pic is one I snapped at the 50 minute mark(ish) of Jose and Tom who went on to place 1st and 2nd for our Cat - Master B. "...Tough luck for Murray, Kris and Donald who all got caught up in crashes. Fortunately the worse damage was some road rash only......go get em next week at Brooklyn! My expectations were pretty low. The weather was good but heading into the race I knew I didn`t have much saddle time in the books and last night I had a few too many beers. Yeah...I know. That said it was pretty obvious the pace would be fast with such optimum weather conditions. I started at the back of the peleton and pretty much stayed there for my 16(ish) kilometres of racing, chasing the small pack that dropped off the main peleton. I would catch riders, but then lose riders, get within striking distance of

Play me the blues!

Doh! Sunny Friday and Saturday and rain and cold for the AMP race on Sunday. Figures! Mind you the forecast changes hereabouts like the time. My son promised he would practice so we traded in his rental bass package for his own guitar. Considering the cost of lessons I hope he sticks with it. Here`s hoping he takes out his adolescant angst on the guitar......(wink). Until I hear of a more promising forecast for Sunday play me the blues. Geo

Awesome weekend!

Hoorah! After a week of rain the weekend offered some ride time. Saturday was cool with gusty winds but the sun was shining. We had 20+ riders out for the club ride. Felt great, winds be damned, to get on the bike. Sunday was an incredible day. I opted for the Peggy`s Cove Loop ride that left the Armdale rotary at Noon. As the pictures will show I overdressed as the day was wonderful(sunny and 18C). My wireless computer was being cranky but Gautam`s computer read 98K with a 30KPH average as I turned onto my street. Wow! Considering it is April and that I have a total of 3 club rides in the books this is a promising result with the AMP one week away. I`m still not race ready but at least I feel a little more confident. Cudos out to my riding partners(see pic).......Murray and Gautam. Murray was a beast! He is definitely ready for next week`s race. George

Rain Rain go away......!

Looks like the weather will improve for the weekend so I`m hoping to get in some serious milage. There is the usual club ride on Saturday morning and a Peggy`s Cove ride(100K)on Sunday afternoon. If the weather cooperates then my only roadblock is childcare. Hopefully Monica is working the 4 - 12 shift on Sunday. George

Road to the AMP

Saturday. April 15 Managed to get in my first fast training ride in an attempt to get ready for the first road race of the year on April 30. Managed to hang with the lead pack for a spirited ride back to the shop via Fall River - Laurie Park - Fall River - Waverly - Rocky Lake road - Bedford. It hurt! I suffered like a maggot. It was a good pain tho.....(wink) I managed a smile when I got home when Josh snapped a photo of me on the step. Sunday was a family meal in Chelsea and tonight I got in a 40 minute express spin class. Legs feeling good tonight. Calling for rain all week tho....that suxs. I need saddle time. Geo

Club Me! A History.

After my first year on the road bike I joined a local cycling club. In hinesight it was the best decision I ever made in regards to experiencing the whole cycling lifestyle. The club,Bicycles Plus Cycling Club (BPCC),is based out of the shop in Bedford Nova Scotia. Our demographic is varied with both male and female cyclists ranging in ages from teenagers to 50+ riders. We offer a weekly Saturday all skills, no drop ride and a variety of ad hoc rides organized by the club executive and/or members throughout the week facilitated by Paceline, our MSN group communication tool. The club also advocates racing in conjunction with Bicycle Nova Scotia and the blue racing kit is often seen at local races with strong representation in the women`s field and Men`s Senior and Master categories. I did my first road race at Riverport in 2004 and had great expectations for the 2005 season. After riding the AMP Super Criterium in April and the Truro crit in May I discovered the crack on my fram

Back in 2002 I was slogging along the Bedford highway on my MTB when a paceline of road cyclists passed me, seemingly effortless against the headwind. As they disappeared around a bend in the road I remember thinking..."Now that`s what I need to do!" After numerous visits to the local bike shops, endless hours educating myself to the world of road cycling, gear , bikes and components I decided to purchase my first "roadie". After narrowing down my choices it was a decision between a Lemond Alp D`Heuz with a Rolf wheelset or a Devinci Silverstone at a better price and, overall, a nice component package. As I pondered my choice my cycling alter ego was born - Rolf Devinci. BTW - I chose the Devinci. A company based out of Quebec they make great bicycles and after having my 2001 frame replaced in 2005 with a new frame due to a crack along the bottom bracket weld I can say they offer excellent customer service! The Beginning

OK.......here goes. After the suggestions of my sister I have begun my own blog. As an online journal it will mostly consist of my ramblings and observations of my passion for cycling but also contain a variety of other stuff as it happens. Bear with me while I get this site up and running. I look forward to posting some of my cycling pics, both from the bike and the sidelines, of club rides and local races. George
