2012 Halifax Criterium

On a perfect sunny day I managed to catch the 2012 running of the Halifax Criterium hosted by the Bicycles Plus Cycling Club. Raced upon the flat, wide boulevards surrounding the Halifax Commons in conjunction with HRM Bike Week it is a spectator friendly super criterium style of race.

I will admit that I was tempted to come out of retirement and compete especially when KB and EW both opted to take part in the event. I am not training but the lack of hills means I probably could have done OK as the flatness of the course would have been somewhat forgiving. Alas - I decided this winter that 2012 would be a recovery year so I decided to keep that promise to myself and just cheer on the racers and get some video.

Special mention to CF and DM who are relocating to England tomorrow. There is no doubt BPCC will be a different entity without their influence and dedication. I just hope us remaining members can carry the torch. Touching moment today when BM, owner of Bicyles Plus, and CF rode the Cat C race together. Nice!

Cynthia and Donald - you will be missed. Best of luck across the pond. Godspeed.

BPCC  racing is in a rebuilding phrase. With some veteran racers opting out of competition(I included), the departure of CF and DM - both racing stalwarts and several competitors opting to race under different colors I wondered if there would be any blue in the peletons this season? Thankfully some newer members in the club have stepped up to competition this season. The next generation of the "blue train" looks like it is back on the rails. Well done!

Good to see veteran racers EW, KB and MW mixing it up in the Cat B race. Well done fellas!

A special thanks to all the volunteers, racers, cycling clubs and the city of Halifax who have supported this event in the past and continue to help make the Halifax Criterium a jewel in the crown of Nova Scotian road racing. Well done all!

Amazing technical achievement George.

Well done. Great day all around for road cycling in Nova Scotia.

Maybe a few more riders will don the Blue next year..
