Rip-It Defense Fielder's Mask

Slow pitch softball's 2015 season begins this week. I'm psyched to get back on the diamond but as a pitcher always leery of taking the mound. Not so much now. As discretion is the better part of valor I purchased a Rip-It mask.

Designed for the close proximity of the softball infield its purpose is face and head protection from line drives for the infielders and comebacks to the pitcher. Despite using compression softballs and regulation bats the ability to drive the ball still exists in the game....a couple close calls last season a constant reminder.

Being a ball hockey goalie I'm used to wearing cages but this one is quite minimal and light. I foresee no problem other than the male ego thing. With a Caribbean cruise and four days in New Orleans booked for this summer why take the chance of injury? Factor in five previous concussions and my BPPV I cannot afford another head injury. Truth be told its only a matter of time before leagues start mandating their use for liability reasons anyway so why not be proactive.
