Riverport Road Race - June 21 09

Image
Golden in color and cold my Sleemans beer tastes like the milk of paradise after an afternoon of Heculean effort at the Riverport road race. Upon awakening this morning to rain and strong winds, including gusts of 50kph,I was loathe to even contemplate the misery of a 84km jaunt around the mouth of the Lahave river. Having taken my camera gear as well it was only the change from rain to rainy mist at 11AM and the scornful looks of my teammates that resulted in my participation as cyclist and not photographer. A quick bite and change into kit I was ready(?)for the 12:05 start. The turnout was low from the weather and the Provincial MTB championship today so our pack of Master B and C riders numbered in the low/mid teens in scope.BPCC/Gleneagle was the dominant squad with seven riders and from the outset we worked well and actually used some team tactics which was really fun. A two man breakaway went off the front on the first lap which included one of our strong men(DM)so we use

BPCC Saturday Club Ride - June 13 09

Stop your grinning and drop your linens it`s showtime! Quite the club ride this morning, With no races scheduled this weekend the crew all showed up with no govenors on speed as all groups on the road looked liked they were game for some fast cycling. I jumped into the third group leaving the shop that gained some members from the second group who got caught at a red light departing Bedford. It was larger than we would prefer but consisted of solid riders and resulted in a fast jaunt out to Fall River via the Fall River subdivision. Suffering a little in the hills of the subdivision and having sat up to ride with a dropped rider I rebounded and felt prime climbing the Fall River hill and had a scorching descent. Too fast in fact as I overtook two riders and was forced to split between them at 60kph. Yikes! Sorry lads! I guess gravity liked me today as the bike just surged ahead and with a rider on my wheel I was loathe to feather the brakes and dump speed. The ride out to Laurie Pa

2009 Navy Triathlon(Duathlon)

Under cloudy conditions, very early in the morning and labeled in permanent black ink with a 559 I participated in my second duathlon, the first for 2009. We had an early start at 7:30AM so I was at the venue, the Shearwater air base,at 6:00AM. After the pre race meeting and my first surprise of the day we started the race with a listed 3KM run but I suspect it was,in fact, longer as the distance included a hill climb not mentioned on the website. Ouchie! I suffered on the run, even with a good warmup,as is usual for me. I am a slow starter and until I fall into a tempo I suffer. Finished in the bottom third on the run with a 21.17 time as per my watch`s chronometer on,what I suspect, was a 4km+ course. The bike portion fell great after a typical lousy transition that added time to the cycling leg. My ITT bike was comfortable after a tweaking of the bar height yesterday as Triathlon Nova Scotia does not have the stringent bike setup guidelines like UCI/Bicycle Nova Scotia. There was a c
