Back On The Road!

Image
Finally had the chance to get out on my Giant TCR Advanced road bike for the first time in 2016.  A sunny and(somewhat) warm Sunday morning found me on the Rocky Lake road to Waverley. It`s been awhile since I made my way out towards Fall River now that I work most Saturdays from Spring to Fall and no longer participate in BPCC club rides. Spent many years cycling that route so it was good to return to my old stomping grounds. Its come full circle. When I began road cycling in 2002 I began cycling the that stretch of road solo to develop fitness and my road bike handling skills. Eventually I worked up the courage to join BPCC and spent a decade club cycling and racing. Now I find myself mostly solo riding again. Took about 15kms to get re-acquainted to the Giant(quite different from my Norco hard tail I bike commute upon) but the return trip to Halifax was fast and fun once my legs and backside got used to the steeper geometry and positioning. Hoping to jump into some of

Tick Off!

Image
It is that time of year here in the Northeast....tick season! Ticks suck both literally and figuratively. Certain areas of the province have both the notorious deer tick and the common wood or dog tick. Working down in Queen`s county I could be exposed to both so I make my own DIY tick repellent using essential oils, vodka/witch hazel and distilled water. Truth be told I use this recipe I found online at Primally Inspired. Thanks for sharing! Neat blog - check it out. http://www.primallyinspired.com/easy-natural-tick-repellent-that-really-works-essential-oils/ I`ve used a variation of this recipe last season with pretty good success, blending a multi purpose tick, black fly and mosquito spray. This season I think I will create a separate tick formula as the prime essential oil is Rose Geranium. Fairly expensive I`d rather conserve the use of the spray for my lower legs and feet as ticks attach to hosts usually from high grasses and low lying shrubs. I will then

No Ball Playing!

Image
It was with regret I had to fold my men's slow pitch team at the 11th hour so there will be no ball playing this season. At least in Slugger blue anyway.  How quickly events can conspire against you. Last Wednesday the league fees were announced and with fifteen guys on the full time roster I felt better about the upcoming season. Last year was a nightmare with a spare`s list in name only as none of them actually played a single game. I managed to fill vacancies through TH who managed to recruit some friends who played in a different league. Without their help we would have forfeited many of our games and those three individuals had accepted my offer to play full time for the 2016 season. It was with shock that I got an email last week informing me that they were unable to  play for the Sluggers any longer as their original team had been invited to play in our league for this season. I was gutted. Not only did I need them to fill out my roster but they were

Rum - El Dorado 12 Year

Image
A spur of the moment purchase while browsing through the rum section of the local NSLC. On sale for $34.99 I decided to give another offering from ED a try. Very nice packaging with a cork stopper in a unique style of bottle. Neat in the glass it possesses a nose of caramel with a long spicy finish. It really shines on ice, the cubes softening the spice while accentuating a mild oakiness and flavors of baking spices. Very smooth mouth feel and pleasant finish. A dark amber color in the glass the El Dorado 12 year is a very nice sipper. Yummy.

Spring Cleaning

May has arrived and so has the time for some Giant TLC . Inflate the tires, degrease and lube the drivetrain, clean the carbon fiber and shiny bits. Love this bike! No excuses now....my road rocket is ready to fly. Lets hope the rider is as ready.....   Bike love....enjoying a rum in the sunshine admiring my two wheeled mistress.
