Rum - Plantation Original Dark

Image
I was quite happy the day I saw this rum shelved as a new listing at the NSLC. The Plantation brand is one of my favorite distilleries so seeing the Original Dark immediately resulted in a Pavlovian response. Better yet it had a price point of $29.99 CDN which fits within my usual rum budget for a 750 ml bottle.. Packaged in a classic saloon style bottle complete with a cork stopper the purchase was a no brainer and off to the checkout I went with a skip and swagger. The label is very well done with a weathered parchment type of appeal. Lots of information on the fully wrapped bottle that makes a very attractive addition to the rum cart. Advertised as a blend of Trinidadian and Jamaican pot still rums that is then double aged in bourbon and cognac casks. The result is an excellent sipper or mixer..... "....that delivers rich warm tones of authentic Caribbean spirit. This well balanced blend is wonderful when sipped on ice. It is also highly recommended for cocktai

Oatmeal Gruel and Blood Pressure Maintenance

Image
As an 53 year old male it was only a matter of time before my blood pressure started to reflect my age. Despite my (usually) clean diet and active lifestyle I had noticed my blood pressure had climbed upwards recently into the pre hypertension category. As a regular blood donator I have been able to track my blood pressure on a regular basis and while I need to factor in my white coat syndrome - my readings are always higher while in the doctor`s office or at the blood donation clinic - the recent spike has been troublesome. After having some health markers confirmed by a nurse practitioner during a wellness initiative through my workplace I did some research on blood pressure and found that an increase is not uncommon as men age and that the "good" range for males over 50 is higher than the bench mark 120/80. That is somewhat comforting as I have been hovering around the 138/86 range but my concern is really with my systolic(top) number which has recently been in ex

Goalie Pads and Duck Tape - DIY Color Match

Image
Thanks to Sean, an ice hockey goaltender who also plays as a runner with us at ball hockey I got myself a gently used set of Reebok senior gloves. White with blue accents they almost match my RBK pads which are white with black accents. These are the same pads I color matched to my previous gloves by adding red duck tape. Not only did it look good, especially from a distance but the tape held up to the abrasion of the gym floor extremely well. I had no issues with peeling or a lack of adhesion. Its not unusual for goalies to DIY their pads at the recreational, amateur and pro levels. You can purchase actual custom pre-designed kits made by Pad Skinz and Pad Wrap but can be fairly expensive at $70 + depending upon the size and brand of your gear.Since I am a lowly recreational ball hockey goalie the better cheaper option is the use of colored duck tape. Here is an excellent You Tube video that I modeled my technique after..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA8nw2jYe4Q
